The Persistence of Things

Richie Culver

6 November – 19 December 2026

The Persistence of Things brings together sculpture and photographic works concerned with the ways memory settles into objects and surfaces. Footwear collected by Culver since the 1990s, many exchanged with friends during days and nights out across the North of England, are preserved in resin, carrying the intimacy and intensity of formative years, when finding one another also meant finding a place in the world. Alongside them, personal photographs are stapled to supports before being torn away, leaving fragments, punctures and metal. This process of reductionism approaches abstract painting, allowing attachment and removal to become forms of mark-making. Together, the works consider how experiences remain with us, even as their details fade.
